How I Got My City Parking Permit One of the biggest annoyances I remember from living in the city was the parking. There is never enough of it, and when you finally find something, chances are it’s either metered or permit parking only. The major lack of parking makes driving anywhere in the city pretty inconvenient, and makes for having visitors nearly impossible unless they take public transit. I didn’t really know what to do when I first moved to the city sine I had lived in the suburbs for longer than I could remember, went online and tried to figure it out. You would think it would be easier to figure out what you need to do to get a city parking permit, but it up actually being rather difficult.

My search online didn’t lead to anything useful, so I decided to ask one of my local neighbors how they went about getting theirs – you can tell who the locals are by the row of city parking permits on their bumpers or windows. They told me I had to bring a utility bill to city hall and request a residential permit form, fill it out and wait the week or two to get the permit in the mail. Slightly annoyed at the steps I have to take just to be able to park outside my own house, I took his advice and grabbed my gas bill, and headed downtown.

Luckily, I was able to get the paperwork I needed rather easily, and spent the next few minutes filling out all the necessary information. After waiting in line for a bit, I was able to see the clerk and get everything filed properly. My permit should be in the mail in the next week or so. In the mean time, they told me, I could use a temporary permit they print up. I wasn’t expecting this bit of news and it ended up making the whole situation much better.

That night before bed I was randomly browsing sites online and I saw an ad for a city parking permit holder, and figured I would read on. The city had just recently started using hang-tags for their parking permits, so the permit holder ad was pretty well timed. I had it in the mail just about the same time the permit came in, so I was all set to go.

City parking permits can be a hassle, but are a part of life for many people. I was lucky enough to get the city parking permit holder, which made storing it a breeze.
